WHAT WILL WE DO?
Our primary activity will be to grow our relationship with our global neighbors - learning about their culture; experiencing daily life with them; and hearing their struggles, hopes, and dreams. We will also engage with them in working to realize some of their dreams, including some construction work to help improve the desperately inadequate health situations in which many of them live. Some possibilities for other activities: participate in a story exchange with local women, cooking together, repair local schools, visit micro businesses, art projects with children, computer classes for youth and much more! And, of course, there will be time for a bit of sightseeing!
WHERE WILL WE STAY?
We will spend one night in the capital city of Managua, and the rest of the week in La Flor. Living arrangements will be very modest. We will sleep in the community center in La Flor and use outside showers and latrines (bring your mosquito net). We will eat “tipico” Nicaraguan food (mostly rice and beans) prepared by the community. Electricity may be limited and sporadic, but we will have running water (a rarity in rural Nicaragua).
We’ll be gathering material supplies to donate to the community, so travelers will be limited to one carryon suitcase per person for the trip — it’s a chance to see what we can do without!
WHAT WILL IT COST?
The cost will be $765, plus airfare. This covers lodging, meals, in-country transportation, interpreter expenses, and trip coordination and leadership. The only personal costs will be meals en route to and from Nicaragua, souvenirs, and any unscheduled activities/meals the team decides to add. We have limited space for this adventure.
A $200, nonrefundable deposit is due November 11 with your registration in order to hold your spot; the balance is due December 11. Participants should be in good health, able to walk at least ¼ mile, and must be pre-approved by your group leader.
