TCC Music PartnerTrip

Registration is closed for this event
Tulsa Community College music students share their skills and learn about Nicaraguan music.

What Will We Do?

Our primary activity will be developing our relationship with our global neighbors: learning about their culture; experiencing daily life with them; and hearing their struggles, hopes, and dreams. We will take part in making music with the children and teachers in an annual weeklong music camp. Through singing, flute, guitar, and marimba, we’ll experience and learn about traditional Nicaraguan folk music. We may also choose to participate in constructing a house for a family in need. And, of course, there will be a trip to the beach and other sightseeing!

Participants should be in good health, able to walk at least 1⁄4 mile, and must be pre-approved by the group leader.

Where Will We Stay?

We will stay in Chacraseca at the Peace House – a dormitory built by the community for visiting groups. Living arrangements will be very modest, and we will eat tipico Nicaraguan food (mostly rice and beans) prepared by the community. We will have running water (a rarity in rural Nicaragua) with indoor bathrooms and showers!

We’ll be gathering material supplies to donate to the community, so travelers will be limited to one carryon suitcase per person for the trip — it’s a chance to see what we can do without!

What Will It Cost?

The cost will be $950 plus airfare from Tulsa to Managua, Nicaragua. This covers lodging, meals, in-country transportation, translator expenses, and trip coordination and leadership. The only personal costs will be meals en route to and from Nicaragua, souvenirs, and any unscheduled activities or meals the team decides to add. We have limited space for this adventure.

Travel Arrangements

JustHope will be booking flight itineraries, so it is vital that participants pre-pay their airfare before flights can be booked. A few months before the trip, when prices seem to be the most favorable, the cost will be determined and that amount will need to be paid at that time, which may be earlier than the March 6 deadline. Airfare will probably cost around $800, but may be more or less.

Deadlines

ASAP - Aquire a US Passport. Passports must be valid for 6 months after your return date.
March 6 - $200, nonrefundable deposit is due with your registration in order to hold your spot. Also, the cost of airfare must be paid by this date - or earlier if prices are favorable.
April 5 - Full payment is due, along with paperwork and copy of passport.
