Federated UCC PartnerTrip

A relationship-building PartnerTrip with Federated UCC of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and Chacraseca, Nicaragua.

What Will We Do?

Our primary activity will be nurturing our relationship with our global neighbors in the rural farming community of Chacraseca, Nicaragua. We’ll learn about their culture; experience daily life with them; and hear their struggles, hopes, and dreams. We will visit, work with, and learn from women who have microcredit projects, subsistence farmers, and community leaders. We will also support Stitching Hope, our partner project, which is a women’s sewing business. This trip will also include opportunities to work with the water project, healthcare, and building a latrine. Some of our activity during the week will be determined by community needs at the time... and by participant interests. Want to teach a group of women to sew or learn a new craft? Or work in the community clinic? Or learn to make tortillas or cook ‘gallo pinto’? Interested in helping local teachers do art, music, or science in school? Or teaching bookkeeping? Or repairing computers? Or painting a water tower? Visit a family of potters?

Spanish language is not necessary. Participants should be in good health and must be pre-approved by the trip organizer.

Where Will We Stay?

We will spend one or two nights in a modest hotel in the capital city of Managua, and the other nights in the “Casa de Paz” retreat house in Chacraseca. Those who wish will have an opportunity to spend a night with a family in the community. We will eat “tipico” Nicaraguan food (mostly rice & beans) prepared by the community. Our transportation will range from a rented van to ox-carts and lots of walking. We’ll be traveling light  participants are limited to one carryon suitcase per person for the trip—it’s a chance to see what we can do without!
