Activities

This trip will offer opportunities to engage with Stitching Hope (women's sewing cooperative), the Cultural Center, and the Model Farm:

• Spend a day or a week hand-painting fabric and making fair trade craft items with the women of Stitching Hope
• Explore painting or photography or other visual arts with children and youth in our Cultural Center
• Teach guitar or piano (or the instrument of your choice) to kids who have little access to music
• Engage youth in learning drama and theater
• Work with local farmers in our reforestation and permaculture plantings
• Help build the Model Farm's Learning Center or construct the aquaponics system
• Practice reading with children or help them write their own stories

And, of course, there will be time for a bit of sightseeing!

Participants should be in good health, able to walk at least ¼ mile, and must be pre-approved by the trip organizer.

Accommodations

We will stay in the Peace House and eat simple (but delicious) meals prepared by the community. Nicaraguan translators will be part of the team. We will continue to develop our relationships with the people of Chacraseca, participate in cultural activities, and visit the newest JustHope projects!

Travelers will be limited to one carry-on suitcase per person for the trip — it’s a chance to see what we can do without!

Costs

The cost is $850 per person plus airfare to Managua, Nicaragua. This covers lodging, meals, in-country transportation, interpreter expenses, and trip coordination and leadership. The only other personal costs will be meals en route to and from Nicaragua, $10 entry visa, souvenirs, and any unscheduled activities/meals the team decides to add. If a minimum number of participants is not reached, the cost person may increase. We have limited space for this adventure.

The trip fee may increase a bit if the trip is extended by a day in order to get cheaper airfare. (See below.)

Travel Arrangements

Participants book their own flights, either individually or as a group. Participants must arrive in Managua by 3pm on the first day of the trip.

The dates of the trip are open to change by a day or two, based on cheap airfare. Do not book flights until you have confirmed with the trip organizer that the dates are firm.

Deadlines

April 21: Online registration and deposit due.

May 10: Full payment, passport copy, JustHope paperwork, and flight itinerary are all due. See this page for more information.
