Partner SamplerTrip

Registration is closed for this event
Participants will share their musical and artistic skills and learn about Nicaraguan music and arts or participate in a variety of other JustHope projects.

Activities

This trip will offer opportunities to engage with Stitching Hope (women's sewing cooperative), the Cultural Center, and the Model Farm:

  • Spend a day or a week hand-painting fabric and making fair trade craft items with the women of Stitching Hope
  • Explore painting or photography or other visual arts with children and youth in our Cultural Center
  • Teach guitar or piano (or the instrument of your choice) to kids who have little access to music
  • Engage youth in learning drama and theater
  • Work with local farmers in our reforestation and permaculture plantings
  • Help build the Model Farm's Learning Center or construct the aquaponics system
  • Help build a house

And, of course, there will be a trip to the beach and other sightseeing!

Participants should be in good health, able to walk at least 1⁄4 mile, and must be pre-approved by the group leader.

Accommodations

We will sleep in dorm-style housing constructed for visiting groups. We will also spend one night with families. We will eat “tipico” Nicaraguan food (mostly rice and beans) prepared by the communities, and travel by vans/bus.

Travelers will be limited to one carry-on suitcase per person for the trip — it’s a chance to see what we can do without!

Costs

The cost will be $825 plus airfare (approx $700-800) to Managua, Nicaragua. This covers lodging, meals, in country transportation, interpreter expenses, and trip coordination and leadership. The only personal costs will be $10 visa to enter the country, meals en route to and from Nicaragua, souvenirs, and any unscheduled activities the team decides to add.

A $200 non-refundable deposit is due with your registration.

Participants who are interested in receiving continuing education credits may do so through Tulsa Community College for an additional fee of $125. Contact Douglas Price, Douglas.Price@tulsacc.edu, for more information.

Travel Arrangements

Participants book their own flights, either individually or as a group. Participants must arrive in Managua by 3pm on the first day of the trip.
