Funding microcredit banks is a 25-year tradition at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We see microcredit as a powerful and sustainable way to improve the lives of families. As the “Village Banking” team, we are pleased to be partners with JustHope in two banks in Chacraseca. In addition to individual contributions, our group manages a tienda on Sunday mornings to sell fair trade coffee and chocolate. It was wonderful for a group of us to travel to Nicaragua in February 2018 to meet borrowers, to learn more about how the banks operate, and to celebrate the extraordinary commitment of the women borrowers. With funding from the church’s environmental “Green Team,” we also had the pleasure of funding the materials and helping construct two green stoves.
