Hello everyone!
I am Saraí de Los Ángeles Cajina Romero, and I am 8 years old. I am in 2nd grade and I am from a small sector in the community of Chacraseca called La Concepción.
My dad is in the army, unfortunately I barely see him because he works a lot. My mom is with us and she is a housewife. I have a brother who is 12 years old and goes to high school.
My school is about half a kilometer away, I walk to school and my mom accompanies me since the school is by the road and a lot of heavy trucks pass by. In case she can't take me to school my brother takes me walking or on his bicycle. What I like about school is that I can study and learn more and I can also play with my friends during school break. My favorite subject is math because I love to count.
The backpack scholarship is important because thanks to it we can attend school with our school supplies. I know that for my mom it was very difficult to choose who to purchase school supplies and backpack to attend school, but thanks to this scholarship my brother and I can both attend school.
JustHope's Backpack Scholarship program provides basic school supplies and a pair of shoes stuffed into a backpack that a scholar can use throughout the year. Plus, this year, $5 will go towards pandemic-related PPE for schools to help keep all kids safe.
The recipients are chosen by the community leaders based on family need; only one child per family can receive a scholarship until all families in need have been served. Community leaders follow up with the primary age becados (scholarship recipients). If a child does not complete the school year, that family is not eligible for any of their children to receive a scholarship the following year.
How many backpacks can you give this year?
